Flight Crew

Trent Rae

Captain

I was born in Imperial, Sk.  I finished High School in Imperial and attended the University of Saskatchewan and University of Waterloo where I finished my Doctor of Optometry degree in 1991.  I am married with 3 grown children and have been practicing Optometry in Melfort since 1991.

I began my aviation adventure in 2008 and finished my PPL in 2009.  I have owned a 172L and now own and enjoy flying my 172RG.  I obtained my IFR rating in 2017, my CPL in 2020 and I am currently taking my Instructor Rating.  I am also a pilot and navigator for the Prince Albert Casara organization.

I am also the captain of our Local COPA Flight #182 and actively involved in the local airport board.  I have enjoyed organizing our annual Rust Remover along with the COPA for kids event that we host annually in June.  I was able to fly to Oshkosh Airventure in 2018 and 2019 and enjoyed camping under the wing along with attending all the other events.

Ron Nielsen

Navigator

I live on a farm in the Melfort area. In my earlier years I had some involvement with an areal spraying operation and help with airplane maintenance.

Years past and then in 2005, I began building a Challenger II ultralight. I took my flight training from Vern Rees at Corman Park airport. I had a farm strip and enjoyed several years of flying around the local area. It was great and I started interacting with other pilots in Melfort and Tisdale.

This led me to being involved with some Melfort pilots as we worked together to restart a local flying club. This became the “Melfort Regional Aircraft Association”. Later we became a COPA flight as well — “COPA Flight 182” of which I am presently acting as Navigator (secretary).
